Frequently asked questions

Do customers pay for portal access?
No. The customer portal is free for your customers. They sign up with their email, verify it and they're in. There's no per-customer charge on any Gaffer plan.
Can I use my own domain for the portal?
Yes, on Growth and Scale plans. You can set up a custom subdomain like portal.yourcompany.co.uk. On Starter, customers access it via your branded Gaffer URL.
Can landlords see all their properties in one place?
Yes. The portal supports multi-property filtering. Landlords and property managers see jobs, invoices and compliance documents grouped by property — with a dropdown to switch between them.
Do I have to enable the portal for all customers?
No. Portal access is opt-in. You invite specific customers, or they sign up themselves. You can disable portal access for any customer at any time.
Can customers pay invoices through the portal?
Yes. If you have Gaffer Pay enabled, customers can pay any outstanding invoice directly from the portal — card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or Pay by Bank. Payment links also work via email and SMS.
Is the portal secure?
Yes. The portal uses email verification, session-based authentication and HTTPS encryption. Customers only see their own data — complete tenant isolation between customers. Optional MFA is available.
