Set up vehicle tracking for your fleet — from ordering trackers to viewing live positions and setting up geofence alerts.

Ordering trackers
Gaffer's vehicle tracking uses small GPS devices that plug into your van's OBD-II port (the diagnostic port under the dashboard). Order trackers from Dashboard → Tracking → Tracker Store at £12/tracker/month.
Trackers arrive pre-configured — just plug them in and they appear in Gaffer within 5 minutes. No SIM cards to buy, no separate software to install.
Viewing live positions
Once a tracker is active, you'll see the vehicle on the Tracking page map in real time. Each vehicle shows its current location, speed, heading, and last-updated time.
Click a vehicle pin to see details — driver name, today's trip history, and recent alerts.
Setting up geofences
Geofences are virtual boundaries. Create them around your yard, customer sites, or restricted areas. When a vehicle enters or exits a geofence, you get an alert.
Navigate to Tracking → Geofences → Add Geofence. Draw a circle or polygon on the map, name it, and choose what triggers alerts (enter, exit, or both).
💡 Tip: Set up a geofence around your yard to automatically log when vans arrive in the morning and leave in the evening — useful for timesheet verification.
Trip history and driver behaviour
Every journey is recorded with start/end times, distance, route, and driver behaviour scores. Review trips from the vehicle detail page or from Tracking → Trips.
Driver behaviour scoring tracks harsh braking, rapid acceleration, and speeding. Use the scores for coaching conversations, not punishment — studies show this approach reduces incidents by 30%.
Fuel monitoring
The Tracking → Fuel page shows estimated fuel costs per vehicle based on distance travelled and your configured cost per litre. This helps you spot vehicles with unusually high fuel consumption.
If you have fuel cards, you can link them under Settings → Integrations → Fuel Cards for actual spend tracking.
