H&S Compliance Setup for Trade Businesses
Configure health & safety compliance — policies, RAMS, certifications, and site safety boards.

Why compliance matters
UK health and safety law requires all businesses with employees to have a written H&S policy, conduct risk assessments, and maintain records. For trade businesses working on construction sites, the CDM Regulations 2015 add further requirements.
Beyond legal compliance, having proper documentation wins you work — especially public sector contracts where compliance is a mandatory pass/fail criterion.
H&S policies
The H&S Compliance Suite add-on (£99/month, included free on Scale) generates tailored health and safety policies based on your trade type and business size.
Policies cover: general H&S statement, fire safety, manual handling, working at height, lone working, COSHH, asbestos awareness, and more. Each policy is customised with your company name and reviewed annually.
RAMS generation
RAMS (Risk Assessment and Method Statement) documents are generated automatically for each job type. When you create a job, Gaffer uses AI to produce a RAMS document based on the job description, location, and known hazards.
RAMS are attached to the job and available to field workers in the mobile app. Site managers can request to see your RAMS before you start work — having them ready instantly makes you look professional.
💡 Tip: Review AI-generated RAMS before relying on them. They're a strong starting point, but you should add site-specific hazards based on your site survey.
Worker certifications
Track your team's qualifications and expiry dates — Gas Safe registration, CSCS cards, ECS cards, IPAF, PASMA, asbestos awareness, first aid, etc.
Gaffer sends automatic alerts 30 days before a certification expires, giving you time to arrange renewals. Expired certifications are flagged on the team page and in scheduling — you'll see a warning if you try to assign an expired worker to a job.
Site safety boards
Generate site safety boards with a QR code for each job site. Workers scan the QR code when they arrive to log attendance. The board displays emergency contacts, site rules, and hazard information.
This is particularly useful on larger jobs or multi-contractor sites where you need to demonstrate who's on site at any given time.
